Tuesday’s Topic: skipping day

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I hope today is filled with spring in your yard… because it is National Adult Public Skipping Day “a day for adults to skip in public to feel like a child again”.

I think this is a great way to spend the day, even if you have to sit at work all day, add a little skip to your step and a smile on your face!

Today is also (so they say)…

National Hairball Awareness Day. - Is this for the cats or the peoples

National Warm Weather Lunch Hour Appreciation Day. - What a perfect way to spend lunch, outside in the fresh air. Hope you brought some treats to share!

And, today is also National Teach Children to Save Day. - Teach your kids how to save their money, it’s invaluable lesson. There are tons of fun games and activities available at Positive Promotions and “Thousands of bankers nationwide will teach young people valuable savings lessons as part of the ABA Education Foundation’s National Teach Children to Save Day on Tuesday, April 29, 2008.” Check to see if your bank is listed on the American Banker’s Association Honor Roll.

I’m a big fan of the piggy bank, so here’s my recommended doodle for the day…

Pig Lovin’ Girl by JGoode

Dads n Daughters

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

After 9 long months of waiting for our newest family member to arrive, we were blessed with a happy healthy 8 lb 12oz baby girl.

I’ve been thinking a lot, watching my husband with the boys and wondering how the dynamic between father and daughter will be different

She’s so tiny and delicate… so dainty and fragile… so many new opportunities lie ahead, how will dad adapt? What will the princess learn from dear ol’ daddy poo?

I finally have insight to an answer:

Look at what the man is teaching her!!!

and she’s soaking it up!

(people have asked who she looks like… hmm)

Thoughts:

You never know what your children will inherit, nor can you plan for what they will teach you. All you can do is prepare for the unexpected and get ready to be lovedunconditionally in return for your just being there.

Some funny thoughts for the day

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

So today’s Tuesday topic is kind of a random thought day, odd things I’ve run across this past week…

1. Barbie now has a dog that not only can Barbie feed, but Barbie can also scoop the plastic pellet poop after it exits the dog. — what ever happened to just wanting Barbie with ballet shoes?

2. Toilet tissue does not make a good substitute for fabric softener laundry sheets.. even if the attempt is accidental.

3. When testing to see if an “out of order” sign is really sincerely meaning the machine is out of order, expect a mess.

4. If farting makes your kids giggle, maybe books about farting will help them want to read.

5. If your oven cooking is sizzeling more than usual, it could be your insulated cookie sheet turning itself into a puffy pastry popper.

— and finally for the day, don’t combine pregnancy, taxes and new car sales. It’s a very ugly atmosphere and the man of the house doesn’t deserve to be biten so hard.

:D Happy Tuesday!

Add your own whimsical moments of learnedness to the comments…

Don’t pay for bling you don’t want, It’s your dime

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

A lesson at hand… buy what you need, pay for what you want but never just take what you can get.

Perfect example, let’s go car shopping.

After weeks of mulling over, I finally went to a dealership yesterday to check out some of my choices.. Talk about pre-owned options, etc.

blog3.jpg

I am now in the process of choosing between buying a small ranch in the middle of nowhere, or a new vehicle.

We test drove an expedition and a suburban.. Sat in a tahoe… Checked our hair in the shine of a mustang (not a limited) and smelled the upholstery of a shelby ac cobra (authetic… Could be).

The Expedition being my absolute first choice as far as the handling and drive goes… My 6′4″ husband fit nicely in the 3rd row seats.. None of the other vehicles had that kind of leg room. But I hear the gas mileage is so ugly they don’t even post it on the window sticker :(

However, I’m thinking I’d get more mileage out of a ranch with a cow, a couple chickens and a tomato garden on the side.

Ford’s manufacture incentive right now is 1000.00 off MSRP. That cuts a monthly payment by about 20 bucks. Now I realize over 5 years, 20 bucks a month can add up. But when you’re talking about getting a 3rd job to afford buying a car, does 20 bucks matter anymore? — and joyfully fun, the sales guy and finance guy were tag teaming us. Sales guy said incentive ends feb 28th (it’s displayed clearly on the websites -wink-). Then the finance guy comes by a few minutes later “remember, that incentive won’t last long”… Dooood, the tires on this car cost more than that sad little incentive. Maybe if you throw in a babysitter for a weekend and a day at the spa… just maybe that 1000.00 will look more useful. sigh

blog21.jpg

Yo! get this… I was looking at the bling and things that some of the available ready-to-buy models were equipped with, and I was going through the list tryin’ to figure out how to cut the costs. (not to mention, the fancier it is, the less the kids are allowed to breath while seated inside.) … I made the comment “who needs a 2000.00 nav. system to drive around town?” — the guys answer, “everyone who’s had one ‘has to have one’ when they get a new car… If you get lost, you can quickly figure out where you are, they’re great.”

Um… K… I’m sure they’re just doodly dandy. Yet, I haven’t had one yet. So, I don’t “have to have one” now. I’m so deprived, I’ve been driving for years without one… Yet, I have no problem stopping at a gas station, asking where I am OR even spending 3.00 on a neat tangible paper map (those map guys need jobs too) — PLUS (ding ding, bonus!) stopping gives me an excuse to buy a slurpee.

blog6.jpg

What about this option.. For about 500.00, you can add a remote car starter, “So when its really hot or really cold you can stay inside and heat up or cool down your car without going outside.”.

Am I really that lazy that I can’t walk 10 yards, start my car and walk back inside? — or better yet, young children like to play with the buttons on the keys and accidentally turn on the alarm… Can you imagine, they push the wrong button and your car alarm goes off while it starts up and drives away. Neat new game of auto tag… all for only 500.00

Dvd systems… I realize they’re fun and keep kids entertained(kid quiet = mom sane, I do know this). For 1500.00 you can add an entertainment DVD something or other system to your next new vehicle too. Then your family can sit in silence, completely entertained and not communicating with anyone for miles. - forget the alphabet game or singing out of key together. Yet another genius idea — not to mention, drivers behind you can enjoy the show every time you stop at a red light.

I can’t recall how many time’s I’ve seen Shrek snippets between here and the grocery store — where’s the built-in side compartment popcorn machine?

Don’t get me wrong, this is all truly facinating…

blog4.jpg

I’m just amazed at the conveniences we can enjoy now. Don’t talk about family vacations or camping trips…no no, they’re much too cost effective compared to a new car. We’re camping in the driveway with the 50k vehicle this summer… Weenies roasting on the roof, a cup holder for every passanger AND their imaginary friend. — sorry, no stars, it’s moon-roofs now and we’re not getting one.
Do go ahead and hold your breath, give me a month, I’ll send you a picture of my new investment.. Then you too can join in our luxury bun warmer expense sharing program.

Back to the lesson… If you’re going to pay the prices of today’s market, you better darn well get what you want. You better be treated like you have a brain when you are shopping. Don’t let them sucker you into things you want to live without.

So, Don’t let them show you those high ticket models with more bling than you need or want… and all in the wrong color.

It’s Your dime!

Think Happy Thoughts… dag-nabbit!

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I have a tendancy to brainstorm as I’m focusing on something entirely different. This leads to many greta ideas which I not only quickly forget, but also sidetrack myself from my task at hand.

So lately, I’ve been busy thinking a gazillion new places and things where I can spread the JGoode joy.

After 4 days of great moments in pondering-ness… I woke up today to grumpy, irritated pals ready to through things are their immediate powers that be.

Why?

Oh, various reasons. Too many to explain or go into detail about — not to mention I don’t know all the details nor is it my place to spew info. However, every one of these grumpinesses boils down to money.

So what I have to say today is.. think Happy Thoughts.

No one person can take over the universe and destroy our own little worlds of money making opportunity, self growth and sharing of whatever it is that makes us happy to share.

Oh yes, they can try.

But behold… dearest Karama will hit them on the head. (she’s one spiffy lady I say).

Then you and I can create cute little purple and green beanies that will cover the evil doers bumpy foreheads (which of course they’ll have to buy from us).. so it will all come back full circle.

yip.

Now go get creative and make something neat to share.

Today The Nation Says GoodBye

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Today America says a mournful goodbye…

“A man of highest integrity, his life-long dedication to helping others touched the lives of countless people.” ~Former President Jimmy Carter

“Jerry Ford was, simply put, one of the most decent and capable men I ever met. [He] was the kind of human being who made you proud to call him your friend, and we will miss him very much.” ~Former President George H.W. Bush

“In President Ford, the world saw the best of America — and America found a man whose character and leadership would bring calm and healing to one of the most divisive moments in our nation’s history,” ~ President George W. Bush
I am acutely aware that you have not elected me as your President by your ballots, so I ask you to confirm me with your prayers.  ~Gerald R. Ford

I am a Ford, not a Lincoln.  ~Gerald R. Ford

I had a lot of experience with people smarter than I am.  ~Gerald R. Ford

I would hope that understanding and reconciliation are not limited to the 19th hole alone. ~Gerald R. Ford

Happy New Year - Going Hog Wild!

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

2007 is finally here which means it’s time to start setting new goals, rethink our views of the world, recalculate how we spend our time and what we spend our time doin… not to mention who we spend time doing with (regardless of whatever it is we spend time doing)… and maybe, somewhere in the chaos of groceries, school, kids, work, rec and laundry…. maybe, just possibly we’ll get a chance to stop to rest once in a while.right?

2007 is the Chinese year of the pig, or more accurately, the year of the boar.

Those born any of the following years are born under this fantastic sign:
1911*1923*1935*1947*1959*1971*1983*1995*2007
The pig is possibly the most generous and honorable Sign of the chinese Zodiac.
Pigs:
are highly intelligent
are perfectionists
are honest
are patient
always look for the good in others and situations
truly enjoy the finer things in life
possess impeccable manners and taste
care a great deal about friends and family
thoroughly enjoy helping others

“To bear children in the year of the pig is considered very fortunate, for they will be happy and honest.” ~wikipedia

Tis’ the Season to be Shopping

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

15720819_400x400.jpg

Fa La la la Laaa, Lah Lah La Laaaaa!

Yes, indeed the shopping season has begun. I haven’t personally made it to the malls, holiday drivers scare me… actually mini van drivers scare me and there seems to be more during the holidays.

I have, however, been shopping online since Black Friday. Yesterday being “Cyber Monday”, I again enjoyed shopping without the frustration of bad driver traffic. - I’ve been mostly window shopping, adding items to the cart and then toodling off somewhere else.

I love the comparison shopping available when I shop online. From prices to shippinng costs to delivery dates, every merchant out there thinks they have the best deal. What strikes me as the most entertaining is when a retailer makes this big to-do over their latest sale and I find a better price within 5 minutes somewhere else.

HA! Do they think we won’t look? Do they believe there is so much brand loyalty to a specific shopping location that we won’t take a moment to make sure we are getting what we want for what we want to pay?

I think usually *they* are correct in their assumptions (or market research if that’s the case). Most of us don’t like to spend an entire day shopping.. online or not. Most of us value our time more than a few bucks saved here and there. But think about it.. it adds up.. time and money.

I spent nearly 5 hours shopping Amazon for a variety of gifts. I found everything I wanted, plus a pile more I hadn’t initially set out to find. I was willing to spend the time looking because I figured, buy from a single location I’ll probably end up saving on shipping. When it came time to check out, in a matter of moments i cut my order down nearly in half because shipping was still entirely higher than i really wanted to bother paying.

Five hours wasted? Definitely not.. now I have new ideas to hunt for when I actually head to the store.

As far as brand/retailer loyalty… here’s one for ya. I love Walmart. many of the items on my shopping list can be found at Walmart so that’s exactly where I headed first on Black friday. I headed for online shopping to avoid the crazy 900 gazillion other shoppers. I spent approximately 1 hour searching, and successfully finding, everything I wanted… then they’re server went “down for maintenance”.

Mid-day a server issue? Yeup.. not a joy for holiday shopping happiness. And me, the “on a mission” shopper didn’t want to wait. Walmart ended up missing out on 300.00 sale because they we’re ready to handle the holiday shopping load of Black Friday.

All in all I absoluely love holiday shopping or gift shopping in general. My favorite part of it all… the wrapping. Oh how I wish the penguin were on wrapping paper. :D

just a friendly reminder, fun holiday shopping can always be had at JGoode Designs and right now you will receive FREE SHIPPING (yes, I must follow the masses on special deals.. and the penguin too).

Happy Festiveness to you.

Let’s Define Really Awesome

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

So, I just found myself on a small detour of internet wanderings…

I started out right here, on my own blog. I was checking out stats and see who has stopped by and who’s link to whom. I discovered a friend of mine had mentioned my blog because I had mentioned her blog. Well then as I was leaving, I saw another one of those Mcdonald’s posts (more about that later)… so I hopped on over to creamaid to figure out what the this sharing blogging thing was…

During my tiny investigation I discovered Alvin, a guy with a certificate saying he was genuinely really awesome. What? I said.. how does one get certified as truly really awesome?

Interestingly mysterious, dontcha think?

So yes. I clicked.. and ended up on the IsReallyAwesome website.

Brilliant!!

I’ve heard of this site before. I’ve even been passed a link or 12. However, I neveer went far enough into the reading to discover you can really declare yourself (or your business or your talent.. or whatever) as Really Awesome. Yes, you can do it yourself.. for yourself.. because you are indeed really awesome. Aren’t you?

Well today I decided I am indeed really awesome and I need to prove it, in case you didn’t already know. :D So here’s a snapshot of my awesome certificate.. feel free to click to the official JGoodeDesigns is Really Awesome webpage. (Please do, I paid 5 bucks for it.. so wear out the link for me will ya? :D)

isreallyawesome.jpg

You too can be awesome (for as little as a buck).. just click in go and grab your awesome url before theyre all gone. You don’t just rock.. YOU are Really Awesome!!

:D toodles…
